Lower Your Holiday Stress

Are you a planner or are you the type who just lets holidays come together organically? When it comes to Thanksgiving, a little planning can go a long way towards lessening stress on a holiday that’s high in anxiety potential. It’s not too early to shop for a few items that will make life easier and help keep you in the holiday spirit.

  1. Find the meat thermometer. Not in the kitchen junk drawer? Buy one on your next trip to the supermarket.
  2. Pass the butter, please. Ooops, we used it all to make the apple pie and now there’s none for the mashed potatoes? Get an extra package on your next shopping trip and pop it into the freezer.
  3. Ask your guests about diet restrictions. Has niece Jennifer suddenly gone vegan? Has Uncle Joe recently been diagnosed with diabetes? Adding an additional green veggie to the menu could benefit both of them and save a dinner table crisis.

One additional tip: defrost your turkey in the frig and, yes, it could take a couple of days. Defrosting turkey at room temperature allows bacteria to grow wildly. Food poisoning could spoil an otherwise perfect holiday dinner.

Whatever you do, remember – it’s just a dinner. Don’t let stress steal away the beauty and spirit of the holiday. We all have something to be thankful for. Good luck and good eating!
