The family is gathering this week at your place, or perhaps you’re making the trip to the home where you grew up. Holidays mean family gatherings and that, in itself, is a mixed blessing. Sometimes the hurts and rivalries from childhood find their way to the surface and boil over into arguments and resentments that fester until next Thanksgiving.
Before you set off on this year’s journey, promise yourself that you won’t be drawn into a drama from the past. You can’t change yourself or anyone else at the family table so don’t even try. Instead, find things to compliment – the glow of the candles, the sweetness of the cranberry sauce, the joy and laughter of the kids.
Take a deep breath. We all have something to be thankful for.
